Crete Park District will feature their FREE ACORN FEST on Sept 22 & 23 in Crete Park, 515 First St in Crete. Bring a lawn chair & enjoy live music, beer tent & more nestled among 100-year-old Oaks. Live music will be playing in the 100+-year-old bandstand and the Crete Lion’s Club has volunteered to run the Saloon in Crete Park. Several new vendor booths will be featured that include Wood Crafts, Handmade Jewelry, Bee Friends Apiary, Lipsense, Sewcrafty Quilted Crafts and more. This year Crete Park District has added a NEW “Meat My Buns” Food Truck to the already fabulous Smokey Jo’s Brisket and Pulled Pork. Chef Bob Kester will also be on hand with a surprise for our foody friends.
The fest will run from 5-9 PM on Friday, Sept 22nd featuring Giggity the band from 6-9 PM. On Saturday, Sept 23, the fest will have activities from 11 AM until 10 PM. Saturday morning will begin with the Nutty Run 5K which encourages families to be active, whether walking, running and even in strollers. Registration is taking place now for the race at https://thenuttyrun.itsyourrace.com/register.
Saturday afternoon will feature a special kid’s area in addition to the food and vendor booths. Crete Park District will have a Moon Walk Castle, Obstacle Course, Game Tables, Carnival games and more on hand to keep your kids happy while you enjoy music and treats. From NOON until 2 PM a strolling magician will also be part of the fun.
Frank Rossi and Mike Vittori will be entertaining crowds from 11 AM until 1 PM, followed by Greg’s Fender Benders from 1-4 PM. The Fender Benders will feature Old School Rock and Roll. Vince Schrementi’s local Smokin’ Jo’s Band will play from 4-7 PM in the Crete Park District Bandstand, and the final band of the day will be the Bob Lee Band. Organizers encourage everyone to bring a lawn chair and plan to spend the weekend taking a break at this FREE festival. Crete Park District staff says this event is about good food, good friends, and good fun and they hope people will bring family and friends and relax in Crete Park. Therese Hale said, “It is our hope that this event will strengthen our Community and help people make new friends in a fun, yet relaxing environment. It’s not just another thing to do. It’s a way to bring people together.” For more information see CretePark.com or on Facebook, search Acorn Fest.
